Weekly Announcements: 6/10/16

 1. Kevin Blue Ordination: On Saturday, June 25, at 7:00 pm, Pastor Kevin will be ordained by the Evangelical Covenant Church (during the Covenant Annual Meeting, held this year in Phoenix) and receive a permanent ministerial credential with the denomination. (The ECC offers multiple levels of credentialing; previously, Pastor Kevin held a ministry license that was renewed on an annual basis.) The ordination service will be streamed on the ECC website (covchurch.org), so feel free to watch along and celebrate this significant moment in Pastor Kevin's life and ministry. Please also pray for him and Pastor Jen, that God will continue to shepherd them as they shepherd us!

2. Make Jefferson Beautiful Open House:
  • TOMORROW, June 11, 10:30am-12pm
  • Loren Miller Park

All are welcome to this come-and-go event to learn about proposed street safety improvements along Jefferson Blvd and how they might impact traffic. LADOT has conducted a traffic analysis of the proposed changes and will be present to share findings and answer questions.

A few volunteers are needed, so if you're interested, contact Niki. For more information, view/download an event flier in English or Spanish.

3. CCDA Conference: The Christian Community Development Association (CCDA) National Conference will be held in Los Angeles in 2016 (August 31-September 3)! This conference provides an opportunity to hear from and interact with "practitioners and partners dedicated to the work of transforming and restoring communities through presence and practice."
Conference registration is open (click here for event details and to register). Or, you can sign up to volunteer and pay only $59 for registration (click here to learn more about volunteer opportunities and to access the volunteer application).
In addition to the main conference, there are a number of exciting pre-conference & supplemental events in the works:
  • El Camino del Inmigrante, August 20-30 (walking the approximately 150 miles from Tijuana, Mexico to Los Angeles, California, USA, highlighting individual stories along the way and learning/reflecting on how our current immigration system impacts specific people groups--you can join in for the final leg in Los Angeles even if you can't participate in the whole walk)
  • Affordable Housing Bus Tour, August 30
  • Go & See Events (including one to visit COR/RCP and other Expo Park ministries), September 1 & 2
  • National Student Leadership Initiative, August 31-September 3 (training for student leaders ages 15-19, teaching principles of Christian community development and providing tools for taking action in participants' home communities)
  • and more...
