Weekly Announcements: 2/12/16

140 Days of Prayer and Fasting: The theme for this year is Unplugged - Making Space for God. We will explore some new spiritual disciplines (like taking a break from technology) while we spend time reflecting on the source of Jesus' strength. Please take some time this week to familiarize yourself with the prayer guide and the spiritual disciplines we will be practicing together in this season.  Visit the hospitality table this Sunday to pick up your prayer guide or download an online version here (available in English and Spanish). You can also sign up at the hospitality table for a day to fast during Lent.

3. Spring Break VBS: It's time to get ready for our second annual VBS ("Turn It Up")! If you volunteered in Summer 2014, you know it was a great time for our Redeemer family to spend together getting to know families in our community and sharing the Gospel message with our neighborhood kids. This year, Turn It Up will be held March 21-25 (during Spring Break). Let's make this spring break, holy week, a time to spread the the Good News to our young neighbors and their families. This is a great opportunity to connect and invite our neighbors to other Easter gatherings that will happen at the end of VBS week as well. Please click this link to learn how you can get involved and sign up to serve. You may also contact Christal directly.

4. Make Jefferson Beautiful Community Meeting - part 2! Make Jefferson Beautiful is excited to share PART TWO of our Community Visioning Meeting to make Jefferson Blvd a beautiful, safe, and activating street for folks to walk and bike along. This second meeting will be held on Saturday, March 5, at 10 am, at the Denker Recreation Center.

Our first Make Jefferson Beautiful meeting identified bike lanes and street trees as the top two street improvements that will encourage more active transportation along Jefferson Blvd. We've already started planting trees (with more to come!), and we finally have LADOT engineering drawings for bike lane possibilities along Jefferson. We will be sharing and discussing these bike lane possibilities, their trade-offs, and other built environment improvements like sidewalk extensions and pedestrian lighting.

Please come and be a part of the conversation! We need your input so we can together Make Jefferson Beautiful! Facebook Event: http://tinyurl.com/JeffersonBeautiful2Or click here to view/download a flyer with event information.

We also need volunteers to help run the event. Please follow this link to share how you'd like to help. (http://goo.gl/forms/O3kMzkVDTb) Questions? Contact Niki.
