Weekly Announcements: 4/8/16

 1. Lety Trigueros Funeral Service: The funeral service for Hermana Lety will be held next Thursday, April 14, at 6:00 pm at Continental Funeral Home in East LA (5353 E. Beverly Blvd., 90022). The service will include a time of testimonies/stories about Hermana Lety and God's work in/through her life, so please consider whether there is something you would like to share. Refreshments will be served following the service; if you would like to help by bringing a dish or assisting with setup/cleanup, please contact Bethany.

 
The burial will be held on Friday, April 15, at 1:00 pm at Forest Lawn Cemetery/Hollywood Hills (6300 Forest Lawn Dr., 90068).
 
All are welcome at both observances. Please continue to hold Hermana Lety's family in prayer during this time!
 
 
2. Baptism Class: If you are interested in being baptized, or want to learn more about baptism and explore whether this might be the right next step of faith for you, please sign up at the hospitality table on Sunday or contact Alexis to receive information about classes to be offered this spring.
 
 
3. All-Church Retreat: Please note the following key dates and other information about our upcoming church retreat/family camp...
  • Dates: Friday, May 27 - Sunday, May 29
  • Location: The Oaks Camp and Conference Center (Lake Hughes, CA)
  • Cost: $145 for adults and teens (13-17), $115 for children (3-12), free for infants (0-2) (these costs include registration fees of $40 per adult or $20 per teen/child)
  • Scholarship assistance is available for those who have been participating in the Retreat Savings Program (RSP) (**Note: The RSP participation requirement does not apply to those who have been at Redeemer for less than a year)
  • The registration and scholarship application windows are open! (Scholarships awarded on a first-come, first-served basis / registration fees must be paid at time of registration, unless the fee amount has already been saved through the RSP). Visit the retreat table at the back of the sanctuary this Sunday, 4/10, after service to register for the retreat, fill out a scholarship application, and/or make a retreat savings program deposit.
  • Registration deadline: Sunday 5/15

4. Justice Resource Fair: On Saturday April 16th there will be a Justice Resource Fair in South LA at the Harvard Recreation Center (1535 W. 62nd St, 90047). Staff will be offering FREE live scans, immigration (DACA) services, criminal record clearing services, traffic amnesty, and health and wellness services. Space is limited – so please reserve your spot by calling: 213-465-0070 and review this flier for information on what to bring. This event is sponsored by Assemblymember Reggie Jones-Sawyer (59th District) and Councilmember Marqueece Harris-Dawson (8th Council District). Questions? Contact Jessica J.
 

5. Faith Initiative to Abolish Trafficking: The Faith Initiative to Abolish Trafficking (FIAT) is a gathering of churches who have been called to fight human trafficking in L.A. FIAT is offering a Human Trafficking 101 training on April 23, at 9 AM, followed by a workshop (10 AM to 1 PM) featuring special guest Harmony Grillo. Both events will be held at Ward AME Church (1177 W. 25th St., Los Angeles). For more information, view the event flier or visit fiatla.org.

2. Old Testament Read-Through: Now that our 40 Days of Prayer and Fasting have concluded, we are resuming our two-year journey through the Old Testament. If you need a reading guide, you can pick one up at the hospitality table on Sunday, or view/download an online version hereStay tuned for information about Old Testament discussion gatherings, and meanwhile, please be in conversation with other readers about things you are learning, questions you have, etc.
 
 
3. Benevolence Fund: In keeping with the example of the Early Church (see Acts 2:42-47 and Acts 4:32-35), Church of the Redeemer maintains a Benevolence Fund to provide financial assistance to people in our congregation and neighborhood as needed. This fund has been a little low lately, so please prayerfully consider whether God would have you give a special gift at this time. Benevolence offerings can be made at the hospitality table on Sunday mornings.

5. CCDA Conference: The Christian Community Development Association (CCDA) National Conference will be held in Los Angeles in 2016 (August 31-September 3)! This conference provides an opportunity to hear from and interact with "practitioners and partners dedicated to the work of transforming and restoring communities through presence and practice."

Weekly Announcements: 3/25/16

 1. Easter Worship & Fellowship Opportunities: A sunrise service will be held at the Parks house at 5:30 am on Easter Sunday--March 27--to celebrate Christ's resurrection!

Then, please join us for a special breakfast potluck at 8:45 am at John Mack Elementary before our regular Sunday worship service. Sign up here if you are able to bring a food or beverage item to share. 2. Homeless Court Clinic: A Homeless Court Clinic will be held on Thursday, March 31, from 10:00 am until 2:00 pm at the Veterans Park Community Center in Long Beach (101 E. 28th Street, 90806). Adults who are homeless or at risk for becoming homeless can receive assistance in resolving legal barriers and connecting to service providers throughout the county.
