Weekly Announcements: 4/2/15

  1. Good Friday Service: This year we will be hosting a special Good Friday service! It will be on Friday, April 3, at 6:30 pm at the Parks/Fong/Morgan house. Please dress warmly for the service, since it will be held outside. Also, if you have children who are currently four years old or older, please drop them off at Adventures Ahead on your way to the Good Friday service. If you have children who are three or younger, there will be childcare at the service location.
     
  2. Sunrise Easter Vigil: On Easter Sunday, we will celebrate Jesus' resurrection with a Sunrise Service. We start with an egg hunt for the kids in the dark. Then we will gather around a fire for singing, prayers, and dramatic retellings of God's mighty works. This service will be hosted at the Parks/Fong/Morgan house on Easter morning from 5:30 am - 6:30 am. If you attend, please bring a candle to light for the service and a flashlight for your child to hunt eggs with. If it is cold, you might want to bring a blanket as well. After the service, Phil P. will lead us in frying up his famous Portuguese donuts!
     
  3. Easter Lunch Potluck: We will be celebrating Easter together with a lunch following the Sunday service on April 5. Please sign up for the lunch potluck on this Google document. Please join us for a great time of food and fellowship, even if you are unable to bring anything for the Easter lunch.
     
  4. Spring Congregational Meeting: A congregational meeting will be held on Sunday, April 12, from 2-4 PM (location TBD). Childcare and translation will be available. Please RSVP to Alexis if you will need childcare.

    The main purpose of the April meeting is to discuss our budget for the 2015-2016 fiscal year.

  5. All-Church Retreat, May 29-31, 2015: As we move toward our annual retreat in May, here are some key pieces of information to keep in mind:

    * We will be collecting registrations at services on Sunday, April 12; Saturday, April 18; and Sunday, April 26. (We will also have registration days in May; stay tuned for those specific dates.)

    * The cost of the retreat this year is $135 for adults and youth (13 and older) and $105 for children (3-12). These amounts include a registration fee of $40 for adults (18 and older) and $20 for children and youth (3-17). There is no cost for infants (0-2) to attend the retreat.

    * The registration deadline is May 10, and everyone who plans to attend the retreat must register, even if you are already enrolled in the Retreat Savings Program.

Weekly Announcements: 3/26/15

  1.  With Love Neighborhood Clean-Up THIS SATURDAY MORNING: Please join With Love as we welcome in the Spring by cleaning up trash on some streets in the neighborhood! The clean-up will take place THIS SATURDAY from 9 - 11 AM. Meet at 1977 S. Vermont Avenue, 90007. All equipment will be provided. Community service credit will be available for students.   1.  All-Church Retreat, May 29-31, 2015: As we move toward our annual retreat in May, here are some key pieces of information to keep in mind:

To pick up an application, please stop by the elementary school at 1620 W. 20th Street (LA 90007) between 9 am and 4 pm, Monday through Friday. Questions?   2. "How to Resolve Conflicts" Workshop: RCP and the Family Breaking Chains home fellowship group will be hosting a workshop, "How to Resolve Conflicts." The workshop will be held on Wednesday, March 11, at 6:30 pm at Adventures Ahead (1438 W. Jefferson Blvd.). Please contact Eugenia Jeannette.
     
  3. Los Angeles Christian School (LACS) now accepting applications: World Impact's LACS elementary and middle schools are accepting new student applications until March 27. To apply to LACS, children must be at least five years old by 9/1/15 and must:

    * attend a World Impact church or ministry
    * attend a local Christian church in Central or South Central LA
    * live in Central or South Central LA
    * and/or be a brother or sister of a child currently attending the school

  3. Together LA Conference: February 26-28, 2015 (Thursday-Saturday): Consider attending this exciting conference, which will discuss themes that are close to our church's heart. What does it mean to love LA? Let's learn together: Join people from churches across Los Angeles at this conference.

    Tim Keller is the keynote speaker, and the conference will gather people of faith, ministry leaders, marketplace leaders, and non-profit leaders from across the city.
    * Discuss how social problems impact LA.
    * Learn how LA is integral in shaping culture
    * Hear from leaders in entertainment, arts, politics, and business
    * Discuss how we can engage LA with the grace and truth of Jesus as a multiethnic family.

    There is a cost to attend the whole event, but the last keynote talk by Tim Keller (Saturday night at 7:00 pm) is free (separate registration required).

Weekly Announcements: 2/12/15

  1.  40 Days of Prayer and Fasting: Our church family just started our season of 40 Days of Prayer and Fasting. Visit the hospitality table at church on Sunday to sign up for a day to fast and to pick up your prayer guide. For those who would prefer an electronic version of the prayer guide, you can find it here.
     
  2. Prayer Walk next Saturday, February 21, in the morning: Please join us on the morning of Saturday, February 21, as we begin our time of fasting with a prayer walk around our community. More details coming soon. Please sign up here or at church on Sunday to help us in our efforts to organize this event. Contact Jessica L. for more information.
     
  3. "Study Skills II Seminar" - Next Wednesday, February 18, 2015 at 6:30 pm: The Family Breaking Chains Bible Study Group is hosting another seminar about study skills. Weekly Announcements: 2/5/15

  1.  Damon Freeman Memorial Service: A memorial service for Damon Freeman will be held this Saturday, February 7, at 2:00 pm, at L.A. First Church of the Nazarene (3401 W. 3rd St., Los Angeles CA 90020--parking lot & building entrances on Juanita Ave.). Parking is limited, so please make an effort to carpool if you can.

    Everyone in our Redeemer family is invited and encouraged to attend this service. Nursery care and supervision for elementary-school age children will be available; children are also welcome to attend the service at their parents' discretion. Translation will be provided. Dress code is business casual.

    Flowers may be sent to the church at the address above (please arrange for delivery between 11:00 am and 1:00 pm on Saturday). If you would like contact information to send flowers or cards to immediate family members directly, or if you need additional information about the memorial service, contact Alexis.
     

  2. Membership Class Sign-Ups: Membership classes will be offered this spring in English and Spanish. If you are interested in learning about becoming a member of Church of the Redeemer, please sign up at the Hospitality Table on Sunday morning or contact Alexis for more information. Please note:

    **Participating in the membership class does not mean you are committing to become a member of the church; part of the class process is discerning whether membership in Redeemer is the right thing for you at this time.
     

  3. New Testament Read-Through: We have nearly finished reading the Gospel of Matthew, and we'll begin Mark next week! If you haven't been participating in the New Testament read-through, but have been thinking about getting started, this is a great time to dive in! To discuss the readings online with others from the church, visit www.redeemerla.org/forum/ and follow the instructions to sign up or log in using your Facebook account. If it's hard to find time in your schedule to read the passages each day, consider listening to the Scriptures. Bible Gateway offers audio versions in both English and Spanish; esvbible.org if another good option. Happy reading/listening!

  2. Benevolence Fund: If you have not already done so and are able, please remember to give to the Benevolence Fund this Sunday at church. The Benevolence Fund basket is located at the hospitality table.
     
  3. Care Packages for Jen, Kyle and Liz: Local to Global is putting together care packages to send to Jen Chi Lee, Kyle Apuna and Liz Heim, who are serving as missionaries in South Africa and Thailand. We'd love to bless our friends with pictures, cards, notes, artwork, comfort foods, and any other gifts you'd like to send. Remember to keep things compact, as we're mailing these internationally. Please give all items to Amy Kimbel no later than January 25.
     
  4. Local to Global Committee Seeking New Members: Our church's blossoming missions committee is welcoming new members. We meet once every three months over a meal to vision for growth for our church in the area of international missions and global partnerships. There is a very low time commitment to being a Local to Global member, and all are welcome to join. Please contact Jared W. if you're interested.
     
  5. Study Skills Seminar: The FRC group will be hosting a "Study Skills" seminar this upcoming Wednesday, January 28, at 6:30 pm at Adventures Ahead. Childcare and translation will be available. There will even be a raffle at this event! Plan to attend and/or invite neighbors. A flyer for this event will be available at church at the hospitality table.
